Gaming Corner: Game Developer Tycoon Review

Hi there, everyone! It's time for the first installment of the Gaming Corner! This is where I'll write down reviews of games and then link them at the end if I recommend the game or not.

Name: Game Developer Tycoon
Platform: PC
Genre: Simulation
Developer: Greenheart Games

First Impressions: This game looks rather simplistic and one would think the simpler the style, the least amount of effort would be put into this. It does have more potential than what we've received, but this was Greenheart Games' first indie game and it looked very promising to keep you busy for hours!

Gameplay: The gameplay within Game Dev Tycoon is the same as an isometric 2D simulation game (think SimCity, but with a gaming company). A player will start off in their garage in the early 80's, working on smaller games and work their way up into the big leagues, going as far as being able to create AAA games and research more materials for a game, along with hiring more staff.

Graphics: The graphics are 2D and simplistic as they weren't the primary focus of the game. They are still very appealing and easy on the eyes, which is a bonus. You can tell a computer from a TV, a male character from a female, and so on. In a simulation game like this one, graphically speaking isn't as important as gameplay.

Story: The story within Game Dev Tycoon is probably predictable. Start up your own gaming business and work your way to the top and don't go bankrupt. The story mode actually does end after the release of the PlayStation 4, Xbox 720 (or One now), and Nintendo Wii U, but you can keep on playing after that.

--- Rating System ---

On a scale of 1 to 5, I'll rate each individual aspect of the game here.

Gameplay: 4/5 - The most important feature for a simulation game and this game does it pretty well. There are some problems, with the extreme limitations on how games are produced, but it's still the best part of the game.

Graphics: 3.5/5 - Graphically speaking, it is satisfying but I feel like it could have been more well polished.

Story: 3/5 - The storyline here is extremely basic, so it is not too impressive.

Overall Rating: 3.5/5 - I'd recommend this game for anyone who wants to kill some time and is interested in a simulation game. I, however, would not recommend this to people who wouldn't enjoy a simulation game such as this. I enjoyed this experience with Game Dev Tycoon personally.

--- Where to Buy ---

You can buy it here at Greenheart Games's website!

--- Videos ----

Is that not enough to convince you guys? Alright then! Here's a gameplay video I made a little while ago about it. It's rather long, so just take a look!
